Devotional for Week 3- Life in the Spirit: Bearing Spiritual Fruit
Week 3 Devotional: When the Flesh Whispers
Key Verse:
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
—Galatians 5:16 (NIV)
Devotional Thought:
The flesh rarely kicks the door in. It whispers. Subtle thoughts. Justifications. Old patterns dressed in new excuses. “It’s not that bad.” “You’ve already messed up, so why stop now?” “You deserve this.”
Sound familiar?
Your flesh wants to be fed. But more than that, it wants to be in charge. And even though you’ve been made new in Christ, the old nature will keep trying to crawl back into the driver’s seat—unless you make a daily decision to walk by the Spirit.
Here’s the good news: you don’t have to fight the flesh alone. The Holy Spirit equips you to recognize those whispers for what they are: lies. He strengthens you to say no—not just with willpower, but with truth. Because truth shuts down temptation every time.
Resisting the flesh isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being submitted. It’s choosing, over and over, to listen to the Spirit’s voice above your own.
And every time you say yes to the Spirit, you’re feeding the new you. Strengthening your spirit. Breaking cycles. Walking in freedom.
Reflection Question:
What lie has your flesh been whispering lately? What truth from God’s Word can replace it?
