Sacred Somatics: Meeting God in the Margins of Body and Soul
Trauma has a way of leaving its fingerprints everywhere. It lingers not only in our memories, but in our muscles, our breath, and even the way we carry ourselves through the day. The body remembers what the heart has endured.
For many women, this creates a tension: “I believe God’s Word. I trust His promises. But why does my body still feel unsafe?” That question is what led to the creation of Sacred Somatics™.
What Is Sacred Somatics?
Sacred Somatics is a Christ-centered ministry practice that honors the truth that we are embodied souls. God breathed life into dust (Genesis 2:7). He knit us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). And He calls our bodies temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
When trauma unsettles the nervous system, Sacred Somatics helps women reconnect with the God who created them by pairing Scripture with gentle, choice-based practices. Breath-prayer, grounding exercises, and simple embodied postures create space for God’s truth to reach places that words alone sometimes cannot.
This is not yoga, not therapy, and not a self-help program. It is ministry—anchored in the Bible, dependent on the Spirit, and always pointing to Christ.
Why It Matters
Too often, trauma survivors have heard, “Just pray harder.” Prayer is vital, but prayer is not meant to bypass the body God designed. Our bodies carry both the scars of the fall and the hope of redemption. Romans 12:1 calls us to present our bodies as living sacrifices—meaning God values them, too.
Through Sacred Somatics, women are learning to:
Rest in breath-prayers drawn from Scripture.
Ground themselves in the safety of God’s presence.
Practice postures of surrender and openness before the Lord.
Receive comfort not only in thought, but in the whole self.
An Invitation to Healing
Sacred Somatics is an offering of Formed Through Fire Ministries, in partnership with Jane Hanna, who created the method after years of walking with women through Scripture and trauma recovery. It is a gentle, biblical way of stepping into healing with Christ—body, mind, and spirit together.
If you long to experience God’s presence more fully, I invite you to explore this ministry and begin your own journey of embodied prayer.
