Spiritual warfare is the unseen battle that takes place in the spiritual realm — a battle between the kingdom of God and the forces of darkness.
It is not something to fear. It is something to understand so you can stand firm in the victory Jesus has already secured.
The Bible teaches that believers have an enemy (1 Peter 5:8), but also that we have been given every weapon, every promise, and every ounce of authority we need to overcome (Ephesians 6:10–18).
Spiritual warfare is part of the Christian life —
not because we are weak, but because we are chosen, anointed, and filled with the Spirit.
THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS OF WARFARE
1. The Real Battle Is Spiritual — Not Physical
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12
People are not the enemy.
Circumstances are not the enemy.
Your emotions are not the enemy.
The enemy is the spiritual forces of darkness that oppose God’s purposes in your life.
2. The Enemy Works Through Lies, Intimidation & Distraction
Jesus called Satan the father of lies (John 8:44).
Most warfare begins in the mind long before it shows up in your life.
Common signs of warfare include:
Confusion
Discouragement
Intense fear
Sudden shame or condemnation
Accusation through familiar voices
Mental fog or spiritual exhaustion
Distraction from prayer or spiritual growth
These are not personality flaws.
They’re spiritual tactics — and they can be defeated.
3. Believers Fight FROM Victory, Not For It
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 15:57
Jesus has already won.
Warfare is not about striving — it’s about standing.
Your role is to:
Stand firm in truth
Resist lies
Use Scripture as a weapon
Guard your heart and mind
Pray from a place of authority
4. God Gives Us Spiritual Armor for Protection & Strength
Ephesians 6:10–18 describes six pieces of armor that guard your mind, heart, emotions, and spiritual footing.
You fight with:
Truth
Righteousness
The Gospel of Peace
Faith
Salvation
The Word of God
Prayer
No believer is powerless —
you are fully equipped by God.
5. The Holy Spirit Is Your Power to Stand
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” — Acts 1:8
Warfare is not fought in your own strength.
The Holy Spirit:
Strengthens
Reveals truth
Exposes lies
Gives discernment
Brings peace
Breaks strongholds
Empowers victory
You fight with Him, not alone.
WHAT SPIRITUAL WARFARE IS NOT
Many women avoid the topic of warfare because of misinformation.
Here’s what it is not:
❌ Not ghosts or superstition
❌ Not fear-based spirituality
❌ Not looking for demons everywhere
❌ Not blaming everything on the devil
❌ Not shouting or striving for control
❌ Not reserved for “special” Christians
Spiritual warfare is simply:
standing in truth and resisting anything that opposes God’s will for your life.
TWO TYPES OF WARFARE EVERY BELIEVER FACES
1. External Warfare
Attacks that come against you, such as:
Temptation
Accusations
Distractions
Spiritual pressure
Opposition to your calling
2. Internal Warfare
Battles that happen within you:
Fear
Shame
Discouragement
Confusion
Double-mindedness
Emotional heaviness
Mental strongholds
Both types are real.
Both types require spiritual awareness.
Both types can be overcome.
