July Week 3: Reflection

This week we wrapped up our verses on Remaining in Christ and began exploring Spiritual Foundations. As I reflected on the week's Scriptures, the passage that stayed with me was Jeremiah 17:7–8:

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit." (KJV)

What stood out to me most was the picture of a tree with roots that reach deep into the water. The tree doesn't survive because the weather is always pleasant. It survives because its source is constant.

That reminded me that remaining in Christ isn't just something we do during peaceful seasons. It's the habit of continually drawing our strength, hope, and life from Him. When our roots are planted in Christ, we are able to withstand difficult circumstances without being uprooted by fear or discouragement.

As we transition into our study of Spiritual Foundations, this passage feels like the perfect reminder that a strong foundation isn't built overnight. It grows one day of trusting God at a time. Every time we choose His Word, spend time in prayer, and depend on Him instead of ourselves, our roots grow a little deeper.

This week reminded me that storms are a part of life—they will come. But when our faith is rooted deeply in Christ, those storms don't have to shake our foundation. The deeper our roots of faith and trust grow, the more we are able to endure, remain steadfast, and continue bearing fruit even in difficult seasons. My prayer is that I won't just know God's Word, but that I will allow it to take root in my heart so that whatever comes, my hope remains firmly planted in Him.
