August week 2 reflection
Forgiven by Grace
Scripture
1 John 1:9 (KJV)
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Reflection
As I read through this week's verses, I kept coming back to 1 John 1:9. There were several verses I loved, but the words faithful and just continued to stand out to me.
When I think about God's faithfulness, I'm reminded that forgiveness is always available when I come to Him with a repentant heart. His forgiveness isn't something I have to earn or deserve. It is part of who He is.
The word just spoke to me as well. God isn't picking and choosing which sins are forgivable. He doesn't have a list of acceptable sins and unacceptable sins. His forgiveness isn't based on favoritism or our own ideas of what should or shouldn't be forgiven.
If I'm being honest, this is something I still struggle with. There are times when I don't feel worthy of God's forgiveness. I think many of us carry those same feelings. We confess our sins, but we continue to carry guilt because we don't believe we deserve to be forgiven.
Yet this verse reminds me that forgiveness isn't based on my feelings. It's based on God's character.
This week, I hope you'll remember that forgiveness is there. God's forgiveness is faithful, and His forgiveness is just. We simply have to come to Him, confess, and trust that His promise is true.
