Temple Care Is Not Vanity

Scripture:

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you… You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore, glorify God with your body.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

We live in a culture obsessed with appearance — so for many Christian women, caring for our bodies feels uncomfortable — like it’s “self-focused,” “vanity,” or “not spiritual enough.”

But we must understand:

God never called your body a project.

He called your body a temple.

A temple is not honored because it is flawless—

but because it is sacred.

Temple care is not fitness culture.

It is holy stewardship.

Caring for your body is not about:

Chasing beauty

Seeking approval

Idolizing health

It is about:

Honoring where His Spirit lives

Stewarding strength for your purpose

Treating your body as belonging to God

Caring for your body is not what saves you —

but it may help you better serve.

Reflection Questions:

Have I treated my body as a temple — or as a burden, inconvenience, or project to fix?

Do I speak about my body with honor or criticism?

Application Challenge:

This week, practice one simple form of temple care, but with worshipful intention (not pressure or appearance-focused).

Examples:

Drink more water — thanking God for living water

Rest without guilt — receiving God’s gift of Sabbath

Move your body — thanking God for breath and strength

Speak blessing over your body — not diagnosis, not shame

“Temple care is not self-focus — it is God-focus, through stewardship.”
