Stepping Out in Faith

1 Kings 17:13–16

Sometimes the first step of faith is the hardest one to take.

The widow in 1 Kings 17 had reached the end of what she had. She had only a handful of flour and a little oil left—enough to prepare one final meal for herself and her son. She was already preparing for the possibility that there would be nothing left after that.

Then Elijah asked her to take a step of faith.

He told her not to be afraid and to prepare the meal, trusting that God would provide. What makes this story so powerful is that she wasn't making this decision only for herself. She was a mother making a decision that would affect her child. She didn't know what would happen next. She couldn't see the flour continuing to last or the oil continuing to flow. All she had was God's promise and the choice to trust Him.

And sometimes our own steps of faith feel that way.

It's one thing to trust God with our own lives, but it can be much harder when the decisions we make affect the people we love. We want to protect them. We want to know that everything will be okay. We want to see the entire path before we're willing to take the first step.

But God doesn't always show us the whole path.

Sometimes He simply asks us to take the next step.

The widow didn't have to know how God would provide. She didn't have to understand what tomorrow would look like. She just had to take that first step with what she had.

And once she did, everything changed.

The miracle didn't begin with her knowing the outcome. It began with her trusting God enough to move forward.

Maybe you're standing in a place where you're afraid to take that first step because you don't know what comes after it. Maybe you're worried about how your decision will affect the people you love. Maybe you feel like you don't have much left to give.

Remember the widow.

You don't have to see the entire journey to trust the One who does.

Sometimes you don't need enough faith to take the whole journey. You only need enough faith to take the first small step.
