August week 4 reflection:
Walking in Grace
As we come to the end of our month of Living in Grace, Hebrews 4:16 gives us a beautiful reminder of what it means to continue walking in grace:
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
There is something comforting about those words: come boldly.
We don't have to hesitate before approaching God. We don't have to wait until we've gotten everything right. We don't have to wonder whether we've failed too many times or whether we are worthy enough to come before Him. We are invited to come boldly to a throne of grace.
Throughout this month, we've seen different aspects of grace. We are saved by grace. We are forgiven by grace. We learn to extend grace to others. And we are called to walk in grace.
But walking in grace doesn't mean that we eventually stop needing grace.
There will still be times when we need mercy. There will still be struggles, mistakes, disappointments, and moments when we don't know what to do next. There will be times when we simply need help.
And when those times come, we can come boldly.
The grace we needed at the beginning of our journey is still there today. God's grace doesn't run out because we have needed it before. His mercy doesn't disappear because we have failed again. We don't have to search for a different source of strength when we find ourselves in another time of need.
We can return to the throne of grace.
That is what makes this journey so beautiful. Grace isn't something we receive once and then leave behind. It becomes part of how we live. We receive it, we grow in it, we extend it, and when we need it again, we come back to it.
So as we close this month's journey, remember: don't hesitate to come. Come boldly.
There is mercy for today, grace for the journey, and help for the need.
And when tomorrow brings another need, we can come again.
