The Margins Method™: Meeting God in the Margins
Sometimes the most powerful moments with God happen in the margins—not just of life, but of our Bibles. The Margins Method™ was created out of a longing to make Bible study both deep and doable, especially for women who feel overwhelmed by complicated study systems or unsure where to begin.
Rooted in Scripture and guided by the Spirit, this method gives you simple markings to slow down, notice patterns, and listen for God’s voice as you read. Instead of racing through chapters, you’ll pause in the white space—circling repeated words, underlining Spirit-led whispers, starring promises to carry, and marking verses that reveal God’s character. It’s an invitation to engage your heart and mind with the Word while leaving room for creativity, reflection, and personal connection.
The Margins Method™ works beautifully for both new believers and seasoned Christians. For the new believer, it takes away the pressure of “getting it right” and creates space to simply meet God. For the mature believer, it offers a fresh way to uncover layers of truth and see Scripture through new eyes.
This isn’t about filling your margins with perfection—it’s about filling your life with His presence. When you open your Bible with the Margins Method™, you’re not just studying words on a page; you’re encountering the living God in a way that transforms the whole person—mind, body, and soul.
How to Use the Margins Method™
The Margins Method™ is simple enough to start today, yet deep enough to carry you through a lifetime of study. All you need is your Bible, a pen, and a willing heart. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Pray First
Before you begin, invite the Holy Spirit to guide your reading. Ask Him to open your eyes, soften your heart, and highlight what He wants you to see.
Step 2: Read Slowly
Don’t rush. Choose a short passage—sometimes even a few verses—and read them more than once. Notice words, phrases, and themes that stand out.
Step 3: Mark in the Margins
As you read, use these simple symbols to interact with the text:
○ Circle → Key or repeated words you notice
— Underline → A personal prompting from the Holy Spirit
★ Star → A truth or promise to carry into your day
~ Wavy Line → Describes God/Jesus
▲ Triangle → A word or phrase to study more deeply later
Step 4: Pause and Reflect
Step back and look at what you marked. What themes are emerging? What truth is God pressing on your heart? This is where Scripture moves from information to transformation.
Step 5: Respond in the Margins
Jot down a prayer, a question, or a note of worship in the white space. This is your conversation with God—personal, real, and unfolding.
💡 Tip: The goal is not to mark everything, but to leave space for God to speak. Some days you’ll circle a dozen words, other days just one verse will grip your heart. Both are holy.
