As someone who writes devotionals, leads Bible studies, and teaches others how to grow in their faith, I found myself craving a method of study that wasn’t just academic—but also personal. I wanted something that didn’t just break down Scripture for head knowledge, but actually built me up in spiritual strength. So I created one!

What Is the Comparative Context Layer Method?

The Comparative Context Layer Method™ (or CCL Method) is a structured yet flexible approach to Bible study that’s designed to help you go deeper—not just in understanding, but in connection with God.

This method helps you engage with Scripture through five powerful lenses:

1. Comparative Study

Examine the verse in multiple Bible translations (NLT, AMP, NASB, NKJV, etc.) to see how word choices, tone, and phrasing shift. This uncovers layers of meaning that one version alone might not reveal.

2. Contextual Research

Study the historical, cultural, and biblical background of the verse. Ask:

  • Who wrote it?

  • Who were they writing to?

  • What was happening at the time?

This brings the passage to life and helps you understand the original intent behind the words.

3. Layered Word Study

Look up key Greek or Hebrew terms to unpack their fuller meaning. Tools like Strong’s Concordance or Blue Letter Bible are great for this.

You’ll start to see how one word—like strength or power—can have multiple layers when viewed through the original language.

4. Life Application Reflection

Rewrite the verse in your own words. Journal what it means for you, right now.
Ask questions like:

  • What is God revealing to me through this verse?

  • How do I live this out today?

This step takes it from knowledge → to heart → to transformation.

5. Declaration Based on Spiritual Revelation

Each session ends with a bold, truth-centered statement rooted in what God has shown you. It’s more than a summary—it’s a spiritual anchor and a weapon of faith.

Example:
“Without Christ, we have no defense against the enemy—so we must remain in union with Jesus.”
