More Than Believing God Exists
Theme:
What You Believe About God Shapes Your Faith
Scripture
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
— John 3:16 (KJV)
Emphasis
Every person is a believer.
That may sound surprising, but think about it.
Every morning we wake up believing. We believe the floor beneath our feet will hold us. We believe our car will start when we turn the key. We put our lunch in the microwave expecting it to heat our food. We trust elevators, traffic lights, airplanes, doctors, and complete strangers every day without giving it much thought.
We even place faith in people. When someone tells us they will be there, we expect them to show up. We believe promises, schedules, and routines. Our lives are built on belief.
The question has never been, “Do I have faith?”
The real question is, “Where is my faith placed?”
Attributes of God
The Christian life is not strengthened simply by believing that God exists. Scripture tells us that even the demons believe there is one God.
Saving faith is much deeper than acknowledging His existence. It is knowing who He is.
Ask yourself:
Do I believe God is sovereign over every circumstance?
Do I believe He is loving, even when life hurts?
Do I believe He is faithful to keep every promise?
Do I believe He is just, even when I don’t understand His ways?
Do I believe He is merciful when I fail?
Do I believe He is good, even when I cannot see what He is doing?
These truths become the anchors of our souls.
When the storms of life come, we don’t stand because life is easy. We stand because we know the character of the One holding us.
Our identity in Christ grows stronger as our understanding of God’s character grows deeper.
Biblical Illustration
John 3:16 is one of the most quoted verses in the Bible, yet its message reaches far beyond believing that God exists.
It begins with God’s character.
“For God so loved the world…”
Everything else flows from those five words.
God didn’t merely tell us He loved us.
He demonstrated it.
He gave His Son.
The cross forever answers the question of God’s heart toward us.
When we know God as loving, faithful, and trustworthy, faith becomes more than intellectual agreement—it becomes confident dependence.
We trust Him because we know Him.
Personal Reflection
I’ve realized that strengthening my faith isn’t about trying to believe harder.
It’s about knowing God better.
The more I discover His character in Scripture, the easier it becomes to trust Him with tomorrow.
When fear whispers, I remember He is sovereign.
When disappointment comes, I remember He is faithful.
When I feel unworthy, I remember He is merciful.
When I cannot see the way forward, I remember He has already proven His love at Calvary.
Faith grows wherever the knowledge of God grows.
The more clearly I see Him, the more confidently I can follow Him.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Teach me not only to believe in You but to know You more deeply each day. Help me trust Your character when my circumstances try to shake my faith. Remind me that You are loving, faithful, sovereign, and good. Let my confidence rest not in what I can see, but in who You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
