Behold His Glory

Luke 2:25–32

There was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and Scripture tells us something important about the kind of man he was:

“…the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.”
— Luke 2:25 (KJV)

Simeon was just. Devout. Spirit-led. And waiting.

But his waiting was not empty or passive. Simeon had spent his life devoted to God. He knew His Word. He knew His promises. He lived in expectation of the coming Messiah, and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

God had revealed to Simeon that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Then one ordinary day, Mary and Joseph walked into the temple carrying a baby.

Others may have seen an infant.

Simeon beheld the glory of God.

He took Jesus into his arms, blessed God, and declared:

“For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”
— Luke 2:30–32 (KJV)

Jesus was indeed the consolation of Israel, but Simeon’s prophecy reveals something even greater: He was not coming for Israel alone. Jesus was a light to the Gentiles—salvation prepared for all people.

The baby Simeon held was the promised Messiah. God had come near in human flesh. The consolation Israel had waited generations to receive was resting in Simeon’s arms.

And Simeon recognized Him.

That is what grips me about this passage.

Simeon knew what he was looking at because he knew the God he had been looking for.

There is something here for us. The more time we spend in the Word, the more familiar we become with God’s voice. The more we pray, worship, walk with the Holy Spirit, and gather among other believers, the more deeply we come to know Jesus—not merely facts about Him, but Him.

Simeon’s devotion positioned him to recognize what others could easily have overlooked.

And I believe that is still important today.

The world is filled with voices competing for our attention. If we want to recognize the movement of God, we must become familiar with the character, Word, and presence of God.

Stay in His Word.
Stay in prayer.
Stay in worship.
Stay close to the people of God.
Keep looking for Jesus.

Simeon waited faithfully, and when the promise finally stood before him, he recognized Him.

Theme

“For mine eyes have seen thy salvation.”
— Luke 2:30 (KJV)

Attribute of God: Faithful

God kept His promise to Simeon. He kept His promise to Israel. And through Jesus Christ, He revealed His salvation to the nations.

Life Application

Don’t become so distracted by the world that you fail to recognize Jesus in your midst. Spend enough time with Him that His character becomes familiar, His Word becomes rooted in you, and your heart remains sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

Those who continually behold Him learn to recognize His glory.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, keep my eyes fixed upon You.Teach me to know Your Word and recognize Your voice. Make me faithful and devout as I wait upon You  Keep my heart sensitive to the Holy Spirit. May my life continually behold you glory. In Jesus' name .Amen .
