Show Me Where to Start

Sometimes trusting God doesn’t look like having a clear picture of where we’re going. Sometimes it simply looks like standing at the beginning and saying, “Lord, show me where to start.”

Psalm 25:4–5 is such a beautiful prayer for those moments:

“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”

David didn’t ask God to give him every answer at once. He asked God to show him the right path, point out the road, and lead him along the way.

I think there is something comforting about that.

We don’t have to know every turn before we take the first step. We don’t have to understand how everything will unfold. We can ask God to show us where to start and trust Him to guide us along the way.

Sometimes the direction we’re looking for comes one step at a time. A door opens. A decision becomes clearer. Scripture speaks into something we’ve been wrestling with. Or maybe God simply gives us enough peace to take the next step.

Our part is to listen, follow, and keep our hope in Him.

Because ultimately, our trust isn’t in knowing exactly where the road leads.

Our trust is in the One who is leading us.

So as we begin this month of Walking by Faith, maybe this is the prayer we can carry with us:

“Lord, show me where to start. Guide me along the way. I may not know where this path will lead, but my trust is with You.”
