Prayer for Anxiety

Introduction:

Anxiety is not a sign of weak faith—it’s a signal that we are carrying what God never asked us to. When fear rises, the answer is not to strive harder but to surrender deeper. Scripture reminds us to cast all our cares on Him, because He cares for us. This prayer is for the moments when worry feels heavy, when thoughts race faster than peace can catch up, and when faith feels buried under the weight of what-ifs.

Prayer:

Father,

You know my heart and every anxious thought that runs through it. You see the fear I can’t put into words, the tension that hides behind my smile, and the burdens I try so hard to carry alone. Nothing about me is hidden from You—and that truth brings comfort, not shame.

Lord, I confess that I have allowed worry to take root where peace should reign. I’ve tried to control outcomes, predict the future, and fix what only You can handle. Forgive me for holding what I was meant to release. Teach me how to rest in Your presence and trust Your plan even when I cannot see it unfold.

When anxiety presses in, quiet my spirit. When my mind races, slow my thoughts with Your truth. Replace every fear with faith, every doubt with confidence in Your character, and every lie with the promises of Your Word.

Your Word says to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, to make my requests known to You. So here I am, Lord—open-handed, surrendering the things that have consumed me. I trade my worry for worship, my panic for peace, and my striving for stillness before You.

Holy Spirit, fill me with the calm that surpasses understanding. Guard my heart and mind through Christ Jesus. When fear tries to steal my breath, remind me that Your breath sustains me. When chaos surrounds me, center me on the unshakable truth that You are near.

Father, when my thoughts spiral, let Your Word interrupt them. Remind me that I am not defined by my anxiety, but by Your love. I am not controlled by fear, but kept by grace. I am not forgotten—I am seen, known, and held.

Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Let His perfect love drive out all fear. Let His presence settle every storm within me. Let His promises steady me when emotions rise like waves.

And even in the moments when peace doesn’t come instantly, remind me that peace is not a feeling—it’s a Person. It’s You, Lord.

So I choose to rest in You now.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.
